2013 studio painting
chroma acrylic on gessoed hardboard
panel 7 x 5 inches
when finishing my mfa degree, i lived in the woods of northeast pennsylvania and often drew and painted the trees around me.
in the jerusalem series, i used walls, windows, doors, and alleyways as components in architectural compositions that either invited or blocked a viewer's access to the spaces depicted.
as i recently returned to trees as a subject, i seem to have merged these two earlier directions.
when painting forest scenes and pathways, i find myself repeatedly creating paths through the woods (or occasionally, an impenetrable wall of trees).
i am unsure where this new direction is going, but i enjoy the journey.
